Both major app stores generally review refund requests most favorably within a short period after the purchase — often measured in hours to a couple of days, not weeks. Requesting quickly after a purchase you regret or that malfunctioned meaningfully improves your odds compared to waiting and hoping the store will still approve it later.

A genuinely accidental purchase — a child in the household making a purchase without permission, or a double-tap that bought something unintended — tends to be approved more consistently than a request based on simply not liking an item after using it. Being specific and honest about which situation actually applies helps rather than hurts your case.

Disputing a charge directly with your card issuer instead of requesting a refund through the app store can get your game account suspended or banned, since developers and platforms treat chargebacks as a much stronger signal of fraud or abuse than an ordinary refund request. Save a chargeback for situations where the store itself refuses a request you believe is legitimate, not as a first move.

Recurring in-app subscriptions are generally refunded and cancelled separately from one-time purchases, and stopping future billing does not automatically refund a period you have already paid for and partially used. Check the specific cancellation and refund policy for subscriptions in your app store account settings rather than assuming it works the same as a one-time item purchase.

Both major platforms let you request a refund directly through your purchase history in account settings, without needing to contact the game developer first in most cases. Have the purchase date, item, and a clear, specific reason ready — vague requests are less likely to be approved than a specific, verifiable explanation.
