Battle passes and loot boxes both took over as the default monetization model in live-service games, but they work on opposite principles. A battle pass sells you certainty — a fixed track of rewards you unlock by playing — while a loot box sells you a chance at something better than average. Whether one is "worth it" depends entirely on your play habits, not on which model is more popular.
