Originally popularized as an accessibility feature, curbless showers — where the shower floor is flush with the rest of the bathroom, with no raised lip to step over — have picked up broader appeal for their clean, open look and easier cleaning. The tradeoff is a more involved installation, since proper drainage and waterproofing require more careful floor slope planning than a traditional curbed shower.

Freestanding tubs used to be associated mainly with large primary bathrooms, but more compact designs have made them a realistic option in smaller spaces too. They tend to serve as a visual focal point more than a daily-use feature for a lot of households, which is worth factoring in if daily practicality matters more to you than the design statement.

Radiant heated flooring has shifted from a luxury-only feature to a fairly common mid-range remodel add-on, largely because it is relatively inexpensive to install during a full floor replacement (much less so as a standalone retrofit) and delivers a noticeable daily comfort improvement in a room usually visited barefoot on cold flooring.

A freestanding tub or a bold fixture finish is more of a personal taste call — worth choosing for your own enjoyment of the space, but less reliably a universal resale selling point than the more practical upgrades on this list.
